We love 30-minute recipes simply because we don’t have more time to spend cooking in a day. That’s why we created this easy naan bread recipe without yeast and this is just the first of many. This recipe is great because naan looks too fancy for anyone to believe that you somehow managed to prepare it under 30 minutes. Some of the other things that are hard to believe about this recipe are that it actually takes no more than 2 minutes to prepare the bread and you don’t even need an oven!
What is naan bread?
First things first; if you’re unfamiliar with the term, naan is an Indian flatbread made of plain flour. Traditionally, naan is prepared with plain white flour kneaded with yeast but in this recipe, we’ll show you a slightly different version that will also save you a lot of time. The traditional preparation method oftentimes requires kneading and proving the bread overnight or at least a couple of hours before cooking. However, that’s not the case with our recipe.
Why should you try out a naan bread recipe without yeast?
If you’re yeast-intolerant, want to try out a yeast-free diet or just don’t like the smell of yeast in your bread, you’ll love this recipe! This also means that you don’t have to wait 3-4 hours for the dough to prove and rise. This part of the process lasts only 25-30 minutes when preparing a yeast-free naan bread.

How to make a naan bread without yeast
At the start, scoop the flour in a bowl and add a teaspoon of baking soda and some salt. After this, stir up the mix and add some milk and a cup of hot water to the bowl. Keep kneading the dough as you go; if it’s too dry, add some more water. If the dough is too wet, add some more flour. The dough needs to be kneaded until it becomes soft and supple. This entire step shouldn’t take more than 5-10 minutes. After everything is done, cover the dough and let it stay for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, divide the dough into tiny pieces and roll the balls in a disk shape by using a rolling pin. Before you start preparing the bread, grease the pan with some vegetable oil, place the dough piece on the pan, and cook both sides. This shouldn’t take longer than 1-2 minutes on each side. The bread needs to be prepared on a medium flame. After you flip the bread, rub some melted butter on top of it and repeat the same with the rest. In the end, add toppings of your choice and brush the bread with some ghee or butter.
Which flavor toppings to use?

Salt or salt and sugar is the simplest flavoring one can add to naan bread but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t taste good.
If you want to experiment though, there are a couple of toppings you can try out. You can use garlic butter instead of regular butter. You can also add some sesame seeds, nigella, and chopped coriander leaves that will add some more colors and make your naan look even more appealing. These are the three most common toppings you can use but you can always experiment with some new ingredients.
Serving homemade naan bread
You can use naan in several different ways. Naan bread goes great with some delicious Indian curries (like chicken masala or chicken karahi or for vegetarians, masala mushroom or paneer-based curries) but a myriad of other dishes too. However, there are some alternative ways in which you can serve it. You can use naan bread for making a chicken roll or I’ve even seen people using it as a base for making a pizza. The options are endless!
